Michael Hines
UFCW 367 President
Michael Hines, President of UFCW Local 367, has a deep-rooted history in the Tacoma area and a lifelong dedication to labor advocacy. Raised by a single mother who worked tirelessly as an LPN, Michael developed a profound respect for hard work and a commitment to supporting those less fortunate.
Michael's involvement with UFCW 367 began at Ernst Hardware and continued at Pay n Save Warehouse, where he gained valuable experience and insight into the challenges faced by workers. By the mid-'90s, while managing the Linen & Distribution Department at Allenmore Hospital, he spearheaded a successful unionization campaign that addressed wage stagnation and secured representation for his coworkers. His leadership and dedication earned him a spot on the bargaining team and training as a shop steward.
His activism and passion for workers' rights led to advanced training through the AFL-CIO’s Organizing Institute. Over the next decade, Michael organized workers nationwide with SEIU Local 6 (Seattle), UFCW 1439 (Spokane), UFCW 1001 (Bellevue), UFCW International, and UFCW 21 (Seattle), honing his skills as a Grievance Representative and Negotiator.
In October 2019, Michael became the Executive Assistant to the President of UFCW 367, and in the Summer of 2021, he was sworn in as President. Under his leadership, UFCW 367 has focused on building a member-driven union dedicated to organizing and education, striving to support and uplift its 8,000 members. Michael resides locally with his wife Kelly and their four cats and takes great pride in his four children and nine grandchildren.
